189107 | | Milward RichardWhat a brilliant idea - call a book Apples and name the
two main characters Adam and Eve. What this promises is sure to be a theme on temptations and
that's exactly what we get. Apples is essentially a hard hitting take on Adam and Eve from the
book of Genesis - the story of children growing up and going out into the big wide world with all of
its wicked ways to lure them into temptation. And do the kids in this book stray or what! Adam has
OCD and spends his spare time reading porn magazines and pleasuring himself in his attic. Eve is a
drug taking, alcopop-guzzling teenager, who thinks nothing of having one night stands. This is
probably all in an attempt to block out the fact that she's just discovered that her mother has
cancer. The book is peopled with characters that are delinquents of varying types, amongst them
being drug dealers, addicts and rapists, who are all growing up together on a sink estate trying to
get through each day the best way that they know how. Narrated in turns by Adam and Eve this
book pulls no punches. The gritty realism shines through this shocking tale, which is filled with
graphic imagery and the vilest of language. Reading this will make you gasp with horror at their
grim lifestyles, but the author writes in such a captivating manner that he pulls you right into the
story and the reader will get swept away with his writing style. This is an amazing first novel by
Richard Milward, a talented young authorISBN:

JamesJames Patterson has been one of my
favorites over the years, though some of his books leave me wanting. Mary Mary I thought was
excellent but Step on a Crack was terrible! This one was somewhere in the middle. The first half is
excellent. I wish the kidnapping plot had been more pivitol to the story line. I was waiting for
more, but it suddenly just ends. No big Zippity do da ending. So while the lead up was good, the
ending was a let down.ISBN: 9780755330379 Wydawca: Headline

189016 | | Bachman RichardThere was a time when admirers of Stephen King would seek
out every scrap from the Master?s work bench, and it was a cause for celebration when it was
discovered that the writer Richard Bachman was, in fact, a pseudonym for King. There were more King
novels available than we had all thought! And it was even more an occasion for celebration when it
was discovered just how good these Bachman books were. With Blaze (issued here with a new foreword
by Stephen King), we have one of the most adroit entries in the series. King had written the book in
1973 and it had subsequently vanished from his personal radar as he busied himself writing Carrie
and Salem's Lot, two of the books that were to both make his fortune and establish him as the
greatest modern master of horror fiction. When Blaze turned up among his papers in the library of
the University of Maine, he looked at it again, and (fortunately for King aficionados) sanctioned
its publication. Clay Blaisdell is a hulking 6' 7'' petty criminal who encounters
another lowlife with large ambitions: George Rackley has a fund of criminal schemes, but his Big
Idea is to kidnap the children of rich parents and hold them to ransom. What ensues is shot through
with the masterly orchestration of tension that is Stephen King's metier. If there are some
undigested influences here (the two protagonists -- one massive and powerful, the other the brains
of the duo -- owe more than a little to George and Lenny in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men),
the personality that comes through (leaving aside the Richard Bachman nom-de-plume) is Stephen King,
and followers of his work will need no persuasion to pick up this one. --Barry Forshaw Synopsis
Clay Blaisdell is one big mother, but his capers are strictly small-time until his mentor introduces
him to the one big score that every small-timer dreams of: kidnap. But now the brains of the
operation has died - or has he? - and Blaze is alone with a baby as hostage. The Crime of the
Century just turned into a race against time in the white hell of the Maine woods.ISBN: 9780340952245 Wydawca: Hodder

188899 | | Holt TomWerewolves, vampires, the undead and lawyers. An evil
gathering indeed!! I stumbled across Tom Holt when looking for something decent to read about 18
months ago, and have read all of his books since that happy time. This latest offering brings
more of a maturity to Tom's writing, although he has not changed and still makes me laugh out
loud. If you dont take your literature too seriously and fancy a not too serious read, i'd
strongly recommend a look at this (even my girlfriend liked it - and shes a lawyer with no sense of
humour!!)ISBN: 9781841492865 Wydawca: ORBI-PRESS

NicholasIn business and government, major money
is spent on prediction. Uselessly, according to Taleb, who administers a severe thrashing to MBA-
and Nobel Prize-credentialed experts who make their living from economic forecasting. A financial
trader and current rebel with a cause, Taleb is mathematically oriented and alludes to statistical
concepts that underlie models of prediction, while his expressive energy is expended on
roller-coaster passages, bordering on gleeful diatribes, on why experts are wrong. They neglect
Taleb's metaphor of "the black swan," whose discovery invalidated the theory that all swans are
white. Taleb rides this manifestation of the unpredicted event into a range of phenomena, such as
why a book becomes a best-seller or how an entrepreneur becomes a billionaire, taking pit stops with
philosophers who have addressed the meaning of the unexpected and confounding.ISBN: 9780141034591 Wydawca: Penguin

Indra'I used to be human once. So I'm
told. I don't remember it myself, but people who knew me when I was small say I walked on two
feet just like a human being...' Ever since he can remember, Animal has gone on all fours,
the catastrophic result of what happened on That Night when, thanks to an American chemical company,
the Apocalypse visited his slum. Now not quite twenty, he leads a hand-to-mouth existence with his
dog Jara and a crazy old nun called Ma Franci, and spends his nights fantasising about Nisha, the
daughter of a local musician, and wondering what it must be like to get laid. When a young
American doctor, Elli Barber, comes to town to open a free clinic for the still suffering townsfolk
- only to find herself struggling to convince them that she isn't there to do the dirty work of
the 'Kampani' - Animal plunges into a web of intrigues, scams and plots with the unabashed
aim of turning events to his own advantage. Compellingly honest, entertaining and entirely
without self-pity, Animal's account lights our way into his dark world with flashes of pure joy
- from the very first page all the way to the story's explosive ending. Animal's
People is a stunningly humane work of storytelling that takes us right to the heart of contemporary
India.ISBN: 9781416526278 Wydawca: Pocket Books
